Hello! I am Professor of Political Economy and International Relations in the School of Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary University of London. I am also a Senior Research Fellow at California’s Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations, and a Research Associate at the Second Cold War Observatory.
My research and teaching range widely across politics, political economy, and international relations, with a strong thematic focus on sovereignty, intervention, and state transformation. I am a leading expert on Southeast Asia and China, and I increasingly write and teach about Western politics. My current research is on the ‘New Cold War’ between the US and China.
I’m committed to working with non-academic organisations to help them achieve their objectives and ensure my work is impactful. I also appear frequently in the media. You can also find me on Twitter/ X.
